Robotics to Help Fight Sewer Problems

Robotics to Help Fight Sewer Problems

July 1, 2024 News 0

Scottish Water is using high pressure robotics to remove industrial deposits from sewers in South Lanarkshire, in a first in the UK.

Almost a kilometre of Eastfield trunk sewer in Rutherglen was blocked with years of calcite and other hazardous waste from the industrial plot and all efforts to cleanup the waste using conventional methods including jetting, failed. A supplier for Scottish Water then suggested a robotic cutter in use in Germany, capable of operating at 40,000 pounds-per-square-inch with extreme precision. The robot works by directing small ultra high-pressure jets of water onto the hard deposits, effectively breaking them down into smaller pieces.
