Wessex Water have announced an £8 million investment to ‘protect the ecology of waterways’ around the Wiltshire region.

As part of the investment, they will upgrade a water recycling centre in Mere, to ensure all the wastewater collected is safe, before being released back into rivers. New equipment will be installed to remove chemicals often found in home products and businesses. The water will also be treated to remove phosphorous, nitrogen and ammonia that often arrives at the recycling units through surrounding farms, and septic tanks.
