Green Concrete Testing in the Water Sector

United Utilities and the University of Manchester are collaborating on an ambitious project where they are testing the use of green concrete in the water sector. 

The project took an important step forward with the first pour of the Graphene Green Concrete material taking place recently at the water company’s latest Innovation Lab. The green concrete was developed by a team at the University of Manchester using 100% recycled aggregate combined with tiny amounts of graphene to reduce its overall carbon impact.

United Utilities has invested £13.7 billion in the project which supports the green concrete testing to continue and be a potential alternative to standard concrete and reduce the environmental impacts from the construction industry.
